Management Team
Mel Schrieberg, Chief Executive Officer
Mel has twenty-four years of successful general management experience in both corporate and entrepreneurial environments. He is very well-versed in strategically positioning a company for accelerated growth. He has primarily worked for five companies: Xerox, ROLM, IBM, ADP, and Election Services Corporation. His work has involved major profit and loss responsibility, bringing new technology to the marketplace and managing a large global organization.
Mel was the recent Chairman and CEO of Election Services Corporation (ESC), the preeminent election services company in the world. Prior to founding ESC in 1999, Mel was co-founder and President/COO of Election.com. During his tenure, the Company achieved triple-digit revenue growth. The firm had the distinction of conducting the world's first legally binding publicly-held Internet election - The Arizona Presidential Primary for the Democratic Party - and the world's first international Internet election - ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). Election.com was selected as one of the "top 50 privately held companies in the world" by Red Herring magazine and was selected as one of "the top 25 companies changing the world" by Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Earlier, Mel worked for: Automatic Data Processing (ADP) as a Corporate Vice President, he built and managed their National Accounts Division with a revenue responsibility of $475 million; IBM as Eastern Region Manager with a revenue responsibility of $1.1 billion, this entity was the top region in the country; prior to that, he was a Director of Strategic and Organizational Planning; ROLM Corporation, a leading global telecommunication company, as President of their New York Operating Company, this entity was the top operating company in the country; and Xerox Corporation, where he held many senior line and staff management positions.
Vesa Suomalainen, Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Suomalainen worked at Microsoft Corporation for 12 years where he held various positions including General Manager, Director Product Strategy, Director Business Development, Product Line Manager, and Senior Program Manager. He managed the Microsoft SNA Server Product Unit from its inception, from concept in 1988, through its 10th commercial version that shipped in August 2000, renamed as Microsoft Host Integration Server. Focused on technical innovation in a highly competitive market, where Microsoft had no prior presence, Mr. Suomalainen guided the product to passing competitors Novell and IBM as the market share leader, growing annual product revenue from zero to more than $100 million, and from negative to 90% operating profit margin. A native of Finland, he has a BS degree in Computer Engineering, attended on a cross country skiing scholarship.
Orville L. Hagler, Vice President Corporate Secretary/Entertainment Programming
Mr. Hagler is a former Technology Officer and Software Specialist specializing in Financial Services. Mr. Hagler was a spearhead in the business integration team at TIAA-CREF that included creating industry standard business models and utilizing leading edge technology to incorporate all the companies’ financial services technologies, both distributed and legacy, into discrete units of work. Mr. Hagler also specialized in infrastructure management, security and credentials authentication, of web enabled and distributed technology processed at TIAA-CREF. Mr. Hagler managed, led, and created Demand Deposit services and areas for JP Morgan Chase and the company’s prior incarnations of Chemical Bank and Manufacturers Hanover Trust. At Chase he specialized in chargeback information technology and introduced database and automated processing to these areas. Mr. Hagler also expanded his roles to include Database and Data Administration of NYSE securities at the Depository Trust Co. He is a former DJ pioneer in the New York – Washington D.C. corridor. He is also an ardent audiophile and patron of Jazz at New York’s Lincoln Center.
Jesse Paynter, Senior Vice President, Sales
Jesse brings more than 25 years of media, sales and marketing management to SpiralFrog’s executive team. He has an impressive track record of previous accomplishments from a variety of digital, broadcast and marketing companies. While at AOL he was charged with creating new revenue models and was consistently among the top performers in various sales development positions. At the Roo Group, where he was vice president of advertising sales, he was responsible for all aspects of sales, marketing and business development and created innovative ad placement programs to drive incremental revenue streams. Most recently he was a business development consultant to ad-revenue based companies such as Dramatic Health, Inc., Healthline and Rip.TV.
The father of 6, Jesse resides in Rowayton, CT where he is active in community service and coaching youth lacrosse. He holds a B.A. in communications from Marist College.
Paul D. Rothkopf, Senior Vice President, Sales Strategy
Paul joins SpiralFrog with over 25 years media sales experience; the last 13 years have been exclusively within the digital realm. He has extensive experience with start-up companies and re-launching media properties to quickly attain their revenue goals.
Paul started his media career at Scholastic Magazines where he helped successfully launch two computer magazines: Teaching and Computers and Electronic Learning Magazines. He then joined the staff of Wenner Publishing working at both Rolling Stone and US Magazine in a variety of sales and sales management roles helping the company reach record revenue goals.
Previous to this he served as vice president, associate publisher online for The Sporting News, where he managed all sales and marketing activities for the Web site which won both the National Magazine Awards for General Excellence in New Media and a Webby.
Matthew Stern, Vice President Marketing and PR
Matthew's role at SpiralFrog is to create a brand from scratch, map out strategies to attract users to the site and drive overall positioning direction for the company. Matthew started his career in advertising at Bates Canada in 1993 and launched their first multimedia division. In 1996 he moved to Moscow with McCann-Erickson where he progressed through the ranks to become Deputy General Manager, working across both local and international clients. While in Moscow, Matthew was ranked by Media and Marketing Europe in their “40 under 40” list. In 2000 he was sent to McCann-Erickson Prague as the Managing Director to stabilize and turn around a once-successful agency. After four plus years, the agency became one of the more creative McCann-Erickson offices in Central Europe and he was recognized with numerous leadership awards from the Chairman of McCann-Erickson. In 2004 he moved to New York to join a McCann-Erickson agency formerly known as Amster Yard, a boutique creative agency, as the Group Managing Director and then helped merge the group with Momentum at the end of 2005, becoming a co-Managing Director of the New York office. Matthew holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and a MBA with a diploma in Arts and Media Management from York University.
James F. Campbell Jr., Chief Information Officer
James F. Campbell joins SpiralFrog as Chief Information Officer overseeing technical strategies and information technology. Previously, he served as Chief Information Officer at the New York State Office of Homeland Security and was responsible for the development and implementation of the first in the nation Counter Terrorism Network for sharing critical homeland security information with state and local law enforcement. Mr. Campbell served on committees and boards including, the State Integrated Justice Advisory Board, The States CIO Council, and the New York State Intelligence Advisory Task Force. Mr. Campbell was the New York State Point of Contact for the federal Homeland Security Information Network and was instrumental in establishing the Homeland Security Information Network Northeast Region Portal. Prior to his state service, Mr. Campbell was Manager, Open Systems Development for Proginet Corporation, a software company which was partly owned by Microsoft. Mr. Campbell worked closely with Microsoft’s engineering teams to develop security synchronization software and managed staff responsible for development of the companies managed file transfer and password management product lines. He also engaged in consulting assignments to companies in the Utilities, Securities, and Banking sectors. Mr. Campbell is a graduate from Long Island University, C.W. Post with a Bachelors of Science degree in Information Systems with coursework in broadcast communications. Mr. Campbell is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery.
Jennifer Link, Vice President Licensing
Jennifer Link has dealt extensively with record labels, music publishers, producers, talent and talent representatives throughout her career. She brings this first hand knowledge to SpiralFrog and will use this to help develop a long-lasting relationship between SpiralFrog and the music community. Jennifer started out her career in the industry in 1999 at BMG Entertainment licensing for a wide array of products including CD’s, DVD’s and digital media. After 5 years at BMG Jennifer moved to Spike TV in the Business and Legal Affairs department, where she negotiated talent, production and licensing agreements for the channel. She left Spike in 2005 to head up the East Coast Licensing department for Warner Music Group in New York. While at Warner, Jennifer managed the east coast licensing department and oversaw all digital, new media and physical licensing. Jennifer graduated from Berklee College in Boston with a degree in Music Business Management and has been a musician since childhood and a longtime music lover.
Antero Koskinen, Chief Software Architect
Mr. Koskinen has had a comprehensive career as a Software Engineer for the Microsoft Corporation for the past thirteen years. As part of the Microsoft Business Network, Mr. Koskinen has been the primary Software designer of a Microsoft .NET Web Services reliable messaging system for the past three years. In the role of Software Design Leader, he has also designed and integrated file system protocols for the Microsoft Windows NT operating system for IBM AS/400 computers. As a Software Design Engineer he has specialized in the Microsoft SNA Server communication protocols. Mr. Koskinen began his career at Nokia Corporation in 1986 where he worked for five years. At Nokia he first worked with Nokia's proprietary network operating system, and was later responsible for implementing the Data Link Layer protocol driver for the Microsoft OS/2 operating system. Mr. Koskinen holds a M.S. degree in Computer Science from Helsinki University of Technology in Finland.
