ALICIA KEYS' DOCUMENTARY "ALICIA IN AFRICA: JOURNEY TO THE MOTHERLAND" AVAILABLE FOR EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD ON SPIRALFROG™
New York, NY – April 7, 2008 – SpiralFrog, Inc., (www.spiralfrog.com) the free and legal, ad-supported web-based music service, today announced it was selected by the non-profit organization, Keep a Child Alive (KCA), to be the exclusive download partner for “Alicia in Africa: Journey to the Motherland,” the documentary of Grammy Award-winning musician and Keep a Child Alive (KCA) Co-Founder, Alicia Keys’, month-long trip to Africa to visit communities affected by HIV and AIDS.
Keep a Child Alive is the non-profit organization that engages the public for a-dollar-a-day to buy the life-saving anti-retroviral drugs that keep children and their families alive in Africa. Alicia’s commitment to the fight against AIDS is contagious and she is leading the effort to spread the message of KCA, “Start a Virus to Stop a Virus,” virally, so she has selected a number of prestigious interactive media partners to help get the message out. Running April 9 – May 19, the full-length film will be available for download exclusively at SpiralFrog.com with information provided and donations accepted at AliciainAfrica.com.
“We are proud to support the efforts of Keep a Child Alive and Alicia Keys,” said Matthew Stern, vice president of marketing for SpiralFrog. “This is a powerful and important story to tell. We hope to help make a difference in the lives of the African children affected by AIDS by driving donations to AliciainAfrica.com.”
“We have received extraordinary support from the music and entertainment industries,” says Leigh Blake, founder of Keep a Child Alive. “We are incredibly grateful to those organizations and celebrities who demonstrate their support by helping us generate awareness and donations for the families and children battling this disease everyday.”
SpiralFrog is enlisting the help of its advertisers in further spreading awareness by creating turn-key, cross-platform sponsorship packages. The exclusive availability of ‘Alicia in Africa’ on SpiralFrog will include promotion on American Idol on April 9th, advance screenings of the documentary on college campuses, viral marketing and an email marketing campaign that will reach over 20 million people. Additionally, Alicia Keys will also be embarking on her US tour in more than 30 cities to let Americans know where to find the film and how they can help. SpiralFrog will be promoting the exclusive availability to download the film on the ground at each of these events.
“Supporting artist initiatives and organizations like Keep a Child Alive is important to us,” said Joe Mohen, chairman and founder of SpiralFrog. “Our members are active and aware and want to know what is happening in the world. This is a serious issue and we are proud to play a part in spreading the word and opening the eyes of many who may not know how devastating the impact of AIDS is in Africa.”
“Keep a Child Alive is an amazing charity and we applaud every effort they make in helping to change the world,” said Mel Schrieberg, CEO of SpiralFrog. “Alicia Keys’ efforts with the organization are noble and extraordinary. We hope to help their efforts by offering this film to watch again and again, and motivate active support.”
When downloaded from SpiralFrog, “Alicia in Africa” will play on multiple formats, including PCs and Macs.

SPIRALFROG™ SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH WARNER/CHAPPELL MUSIC
New York, NY – March 31, 2008 – SpiralFrog, Inc., (www.spiralfrog.com) the free, ad-supported Web-based music experience and Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), the global music publishing arm of Warner Music Group Corp. (NYSE:WMG), today announced an agreement to make the company’s catalog of music compositions available to complement SpiralFrog's growing roster of audio and video content.
"SpiralFrog has achieved significant milestones in the growth of ad-supported music with more than 850,000 registered users and 2.3 million monthly ‘uniques.’ We are the only service of our kind to secure publishing deals with all the major rights holders," said Chairman and founder of SpiralFrog, Joe Mohen. "SpiralFrog has spent the last five years developing a proprietary database of aggregated publishing and recording rights to fairly compensate all rights holders. This is a competitive advantage that others will find hard to replicate."
"We are continually seeking out new revenue streams for our artists and songwriters and want to support innovative new distribution methods,” said Ann Sweeney, Executive Vice President of Warner/Chappell Music. "We hope our premiere catalog of classic and contemporary songs finds a wider audience on SpiralFrog's growing digital platform."
Signing rights from music publishers is a critical element in SpiralFrog’s mission to make ad-supported music downloading available as an alternative to pirate music sites. Licensing sound recordings and music videos requires more than obtaining rights from the recording artists and record labels. The writers and composers of the songs themselves must also be compensated, and music publishers license these underlying compositions.

SPIRALFROG™ NOW THIRD LARGEST LEGAL MUSIC DOWNLOAD SITE
SpiralFrog Continues Growth with 850,000 Registered Users and Two Million Uniques in North America
New York, NY – March 27, 2008 – SpiralFrog, Inc., (www.spiralfrog.com) the free, ad-supported Web-based music experience, today announced it crossed a major threshold with almost 850,000 registered users. Based on reported user numbers, SpiralFrog is now positioned as the third largest legal music download site in U.S. and Canada behind only iTunes and Rhapsody. The company also demonstrated further growth with traffic already surpassing two million unique monthly visitors for March.
SpiralFrog’s March metrics come only two months after the site hit one million monthly unique visitors for January 2008 and a little more than six months after the company’s launch in September 2007.
“In a relatively short time SpiralFrog has gained a strong following among young music fans, especially those in the high school and college demographic,” said Joe Mohen, founder and chairman of SpiralFrog. “Their desire for a new way to experience and discover music without the risks associated with pirate sites, is helping to drive our growth. And the advertising community is recognizing the SpiralFrog platform as one that can deliver a message through the powerful medium of music.”
Mohen also said the fact that SpiralFrog needed only six months to catch up with the long established services was proof of the strength of SpiralFrog’s model.
“We are still in the early stages of marketing SpiralFrog, but already we are in the same league as brands that have spent years and millions of dollars doing just that,” said Mohen. “We are still the only major legal ad-supported music download site, and by year end we believe that SpiralFrog will be the second largest legal music download service, behind only iTunes.”
Mohen said, “SpiralFrog is not just about downloading. Beyond content, we are adding more and more features to satisfy fans who are looking for an all-inclusive experience. Our users want to discover new music and learn more about new artists. SpiralFrog is designed to let them have fun doing what they love.”
SpiralFrog provides a comprehensive music experience that allows music fans to get songs, albums, music videos, music news, artist bios, reviews, discographies and album art, among other rich content features. SpiralFrog also lets users create playlists and use a Facebook application that allows them to track the most popular downloads on the site.

New York, NY – January 25, 2008 – SpiralFrog, Inc., (www.spiralfrog.com) the free, ad-supported Web-based music service that launched on September 17th in North America, today announced the site hit one million unique monthly visitors and is expected to exceed 1.2 million uniques by the end of the month, according to Google Analytics.

The site is proving to have strong visitor engagement numbers with an average of about 10 minutes per visit and double digit page views. "The site is growing much faster than we anticipated and we are exceeding our internal goals,” said Joe Mohen, founder and chairman of SpiralFrog. “In just four months, SpiralFrog has achieved numbers that have taken other sites years to reach and, as measured by registered members, we are on track to becoming the second largest legal music service by year end. We proved the technology behind our concept works when we launched. Now we are proving demand for it from a consumer point of view.”
Mohen continued, “We are thrilled to see the traction we are getting in the 13-34 demographic. SpiralFrog is at the forefront of ad-supported music, and our advertisers recognize the powerful attraction of music as a marketing vehicle to reach active and engaged users.”
SpiralFrog’s growth metrics are accompanied by a growth in content. The company recently crossed a milestone by offering more than one million song tracks—adding more than 30,000 songs since then—and it now offers four thousand music videos for download. Since its launch, SpiralFrog continues to add content weekly, giving the service the largest library of free, legal and downloadable music tracks and videos available in North America.
Mohen said, “We are drawing users that are looking for a music experience that goes beyond downloading. They want to discover new music, learn more about new artists, and see the latest news. Our users are looking for an experience that is all inclusive.”
SpiralFrog provides a comprehensive music experience that allows music fans to get songs, albums, music videos, music news, artist bios, reviews, discographies and album art, among other rich content features. SPIRALFROG™ SIGNS LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH SONY/ATV MUSIC PUBLISHING
- Ad Supported Music Service Licenses One of the World’s Leading Music Publishers -
New York, October 22, 2007 - SpiralFrog, Inc., (www.spiralfrog.com) the free ad-supported Web-based music experience, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, one of the world’s leading music publishers, today announced a licensing agreement to make one of world’s premier collections of musical compositions available on the SpiralFrog Web site
Signing rights from music publishers is a critical element in SpiralFrog’s mission to make ad-supported music downloading available on a free and legal basis. Licensing sound recordings and music videos requires more than obtaining rights from the recording artists and record labels who own the masters. The writers and composers of the songs must also be compensated, and music publishers license these underlying compositions.
“Sony/ATV is aggressively moving to create new digital revenue streams for our songwriters,” said Martin N. Bandier, chairman and CEO, Sony/ATV Music Publishing. “SpiralFrog has created a new opportunity to monetize an untapped market by offering a compelling alternative to illicit file sharing sites.”
“The Sony/ATV music catalog is world class, as it combines the world’s hottest new songs with some of the best evergreen classics of all time.” said Joe Mohen, chairman and founder of SpiralFrog. “We’re especially excited about working with Sony/ATV as they continue to grow their impressive roster of songwriters through strategic acquisitions such as the recent purchase of Famous Music.”
SpiralFrog provides an integrated entertainment experience for users, with an emphasis on discovering new music and accessing a wide variety of content about the artists they are passionate about. Currently, SpiralFrog is live in the U.S. and Canada, offering more than 800,000 songs for downloading and 3,500 music videos for viewing and/or downloading.

SPIRALFROG™ LAUNCHES FREE AD-SUPPORTED MUSIC SERVICE
New York, September 17, 2007 - SpiralFrog, Inc., (www.spiralfrog.com) the free ad-supported Web-based music experience, today announced the launch of its digital music Web site in North America. SpiralFrog is set to change the way people discover music by providing a robust mix of artist-related content, an active and engaging experience and a viable alternative to piracy.
“Music fans demand fast access to high quality audio and video files and they want their music free, but they’d still like the music owners to be paid for their work and creativity,” said Joe Mohen, chairman and founder of SpiralFrog. “Our answer to this seemingly impossible equation is to allow our audience to download songs and video at no cost—other than their time and attention—and to compensate music owners by sharing the ad revenue.”
SpiralFrog will allow music enthusiasts to feed their addiction to music discovery and music acquisition through free, legal and unlimited downloading. The SpiralFrog site will allow anyone to access and download files from a library of more than 800,000 songs and 3,500 music videos, with new content being added every day. Music fans also will be able to view millions of artist bios, reviews, discography and album art, among other rich content features.
“Research has shown that music enthusiasts have traditionally gone to one site for discovery and another for downloading,” said Mel Schrieberg, SpiralFrog’s CEO. “SpiralFrog will offer both.”
The user experience on the SpiralFrog Web site is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. A clean and uncluttered layout keeps users engaged and active. Extensive search capabilities will allow users to search by artist and by genre, letting them easily find both new artists and the music they love. Users will have tools that allow them to share music discoveries and rich content with friends, and also get dynamic search results based on the preferences and activities of others.
As part of the SpiralFrog experience, users will see relevant, targeted advertising that does not interfere with their enjoyment of music.
“SpiralFrog will integrate advertising in a compelling way, so that we enrich the overall user experience while becoming a must-have channel for advertisers,” said George Hayes, SpiralFrog’s senior vice president of marketing and sales. “The more we can make the advertising relevant to users’ tastes and demands through tailor-made programs and micro-targeting, the more potential we create for a meaningful experience.”
The SpiralFrog model provides the quintessential alternative to piracy and illicit file-sharing. Despite efforts by the music industry and the availability of multiple digital music providers, BigChampagne estimates that only one in 40 downloads is paid for. In contrast to file-sharing services, SpiralFrog offers free and legal music in a safe environment, with consistent quality and download time. SpiralFrog users are never at risk of downloading viruses and never have to worry about adware or spyware. On the business side, by sharing advertising revenues with artists, labels, publishers and performing rights organizations, SpiralFrog monetizes free music consumption.
Songs and videos downloaded on SpiralFrog will play on Windows PCs running XP and Vista. Members can download to their PCs and synchronize their music with up to two portable music players or music-enabled phones that support Windows Media DRM.
“SpiralFrog is committed to solving music piracy by changing the way people discover music with free content, an engaging site and finally offering a real alternative to illicit file-sharing,” said Mohen.

SPIRALFROG™ LAUNCHES FREE AD-SUPPORTED MUSIC SERVICE (CANADA)
Canada, September 17, 2007 - SpiralFrog, Inc., (www.spiralfrog.com) the free ad-supported Web-based music experience, today announced the launch of its digital music Web site in North America. “Given the volume of file sharing in Canada, we are very excited by the opportunity that SpiralFrog creates to help solve music devaluation in a market-driven manner,” said Mohen, adding “according to the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), retail sales in Canada have declined by $465 million in the last five years, resulting in reduced opportunities for artists. SpiralFrog is aiming to stem that tide by creating a new community of digital music users that embrace the notion of fair downloading – accessing music at no cost while supporting the artists.”
In contrast to file-sharing services, SpiralFrog offers free and legal music in a safe environment, with consistent quality and download time. Levin previously helped launch, build and brand The WB broadcast network culminating with his appointment as the youngest CEO in broadcast television history. In 2006, Levin co-founded Generate, a media development and talent management company that produces branded entertainment for the distribution platforms embraced by Millennials.
"Jordan Levin is recognized for his deeply nuanced understanding of young adults," said Joe Mohen, Chairman and Founder of SpiralFrog. "His legacy in establishing The WB's distinctive brand identity and the formation of Generate anticipating the shift in reaching and connecting audiences anywhere is germane to what lies ahead of us at SpiralFrog. Furthermore, his media buying relationships led to groundbreaking deals with blue-chip advertisers creating innovative, brand-integrated programs and new programming alliances."
Levin helped establish The WB through the development of signature shows for young adults and family households such as "Dawson's Creek," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "7th Heaven," "Charmed," "Felicity," "Smallville," "Gilmore Girls," "Angel," "Reba," "The Jamie Foxx Show," "The Wayans Bros.," "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch," "Sister, Sister," "Smart Guy," "The Steve Harvey Show," "What I Like About You," "Popstars," "The Surreal Life," "Everwood," "Blue-Collar TV," and "One Tree Hill."
Prior to the WB, Mr. Levin was a member of the creative team that revitalized the Disney brand in network television through family and young-adult television programming like "Home Improvement," "Boy Meets World," "Blossom," and "Ellen." In 2004, Levin stepped behind the camera to make his directorial debut on an episode of the award-winning, dramatic series "Everwood."
Generate currently has projects in various stages of production and development across
television, film, broadband, mobile and publishing. Prior to the formation of Generate, Levin consulted for eBay, Moderati/Faith West, and GSD&M among other leading companies.
He is currently a member of the DGA, and was named the 2004 Television Executive of the Year by The Caucus For Television Producers, Writers and Directors, being featured on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter's 2003 "Leadership in Hollywood" issue, receiving the University of Texas' College of Communication's Alumnus of the Year award in 2002 and the University Alumni Organization's Outstanding Young Texas-Ex award in 2004. Mr. Levin also sits on the Boards of Matinee Media, the Austin Film
Society, the UT Film Institute, and the Los Angeles Free Clinic.

GoDigital Music Group and SpiralFrog sign licensing agreement
New York, January 23, 2007 - GoDigital Music Group, a "next-generation" record label and content distributor, signed a license agreement with SpiralFrog to allow for the legal downloading of the label’s catalogue, including artists such as Master P and Romeo.
”We're excited about SpiralFrog's new take on music distribution for both our well-known artists and developing talent,” said Dave Lindsay, Product Manager for GoDigital Music Group. “One challenge in marketing a developing artist is hesitation on the part of consumers to spend money on music that is unknown or unfamiliar. Now, that same consumer can freely discover music without risking a single cent, while the artist receives compensation and a new fan in the process.”
"Given how GoDigital looks at developing their artists, with a platform that encourages emerging talent to leverage the label’s assets, we are thrilled that SpiralFrog will be one of the assets available to GoDigital for distribution efforts”, said Joe Mohen, Chairman and Founder of SpiralFrog.

CMRRA-SODRAC AND SPIRALFROG CONCLUDE ONLINE LICENCE AGREEMENT FOR CANADA
New York, December 14, 2006 - CMRRA-SODRAC Inc (CSI) today announces that it has concluded a license agreement with SpiralFrog for its forthcoming advertising supported internet music service. Under the terms of this agreement, CSI has granted SpiralFrog the right to reproduce the vast majority of copyrighted songs from copyright owners who do business in Canada.
“This is a win for both Canadian consumers and music owners”, said CSI President Alain Lauzon, who also acts as SODRAC’s General Manager.
“This agreement is necessary for us to offer the sound recordings that we had licensed from the record labels in Canada”, explained Joe Mohen, Chairman and founder of SpiralFrog. Mohen elaborated “While we had obtained a license for the complete catalog of UMG Sound Recordings in Canada, further licenses are needed for the reproduction of the underlying musical compositions.
“We’re delighted to help SpiralFrog enter the Canadian market”, said David Basskin, Vice-President of CSI. Basskin is also President of CMRRA. “Piracy is the number one enemy of the songwriters and music publishers we represent. SpiralFrog’s new internet services will help reduce the incentives for people to steal music, and will be a welcome new source of digital revenue for those who make music possible in the first place -– songwriters and music publishers.”

Independent Label KOCH Records Signs On To SpiralFrog’s Advertising-Supported Legal Music Download Service
New York, September 20, 2006 KOCH Records, one of the top US independent record labels, has signed an agreement with SpiralFrog to make its extensive catalog available for legal downloading worldwide via SpiralFrog’s advertising-supported service.
With this agreement, SpiralFrog solidifies its commitment to independent as well as major-label music. It reinforces SpiralFrog’s belief that offering the broadest possible choice to its target audience people between the ages of 13 and 34 will benefit everyone, including music lovers, participating labels, advertisers, and SpiralFrog.
KOCH Records is the market leader among independent labels in the United States and had the largest number of Billboard charting albums among independents from 2001-2005. The diverse KOCH roster includes artists such as Jim Jones, Xzibit, Earl Klugh, Bob James, The Wiggles and many others.
"Offering young consumers in every country an easy-to-use alternative to pirated music sites will be compelling," said Bob Frank, President of KOCH Records. "Our dynamic deal with SpiralFrog offers our artists the opportunity to connect with music fans around the world, and opens up new revenue streams."
"Our licensing agreement with KOCH reaffirms our belief that everybody benefits when listeners have the greatest possible choice," said Robin Kent, CEO of SpiralFrog. "We are firm believers in the ‘long tail’ and know that the independent labels and the major labels will reap tremendous value as consumers harvest the big hits as well as songs by lesser-known artists. In fact, equal access to artists signed to independent labels like KOCH will get greater exposure when SpiralFrog members can discover and download them without cost."
Additionally, Kent noted, the KOCH agreement includes a global license. "It is our intent to extend SpiralFrog throughout the world in due course," he said.
SpiralFrog has already announced its first major record label (Universal Music Group) and its first major music publisher (EMI Music Publishing).
Initially, SpiralFrog will be available in the United States and Canada, offering a comprehensive music entertainment destination anchored by the no-cost download service. By targeting music lovers ages 13 to 34, SpiralFrog taps into an advertiser’s dream, Kent said. "Advertisers understand the value of paying for these people to download music in exchange for the opportunity to deliver their brand message."

EMI Music Publishing First to License Music and Lyrics to SpiralFrog for Advertising-Supported Download Service
New York, September 6, 2006 SpiralFrog, the new music download destination, has signed an agreement with EMI Music Publishing, the world's leading music publishing company, to authorize SpiralFrog’s use of EMI's vast catalog of musical compositions available for legal downloading in the United States via SpiralFrog's advertising-supported service.
The agreement with EMI Music Publishing, whose catalog is the largest in the world, is the first agreement SpiralFrog has signed with a global music publishing company. It follows SpiralFrog’s ground-breaking agreement with Universal Music Group, announced last week. The two music industry leaders’ combined rights bring the catalogs of hit artists such as Sting, Nelly Furtado, Jay Z and Kanye West to SpiralFrog.
Importantly, SpiralFrog has also obtained a worldwide license to enable users of SpiralFrog’s service to search for and display the lyrics of EMI Music Publishing’s Anglo-American repertoire.
We are very pleased to help launch SpiralFrog, said Roger Faxon, Co-CEO of EMI Music Publishing. It is a very exciting concept which fuses advertising with music downloads and other services to recapture consumer demand which has been hijacked by online piracy. Anytime we can create a new revenue stream for our songwriters and combat online piracy, you will see EMI Music Publishing leading the charge.
EMI Music Publishing is the largest music publisher in the world, said Robin Kent, SpiralFrog’s CEO. Obtaining these rights helps ensure that SpiralFrog can provide young consumers with access to recordings from a wide range of artists that they want to hear. We are delighted to obtain global rights to song lyrics as this is further value that we can add for our users, while driving even more advertising revenue for the music composers.
Kent said that the agreements SpiralFrog has signed with Universal and EMI Music Publishing represent clear signs that the music industry recognizes the revenue potential of an advertising-supported business model that will help the industry combat piracy by offering a high-quality alternative to illegal file-sharing sites which are often characterized by poor-quality music, missing song details and spyware.
The industry’s overall perception of what constitutes piracy has not changed, Kent stated. By supporting our service that provides people with a compelling alternative experience and lets them enjoy high-quality music they’ve legally downloaded, Universal and EMI Music Publishing have enabled SpiralFrog to move the music industry barometer.
Launching later this year, SpiralFrog offers users of its no-cost service the ability to legally download music by many of the world's most popular and award-winning artists. Its target audience is people between the ages of 13 and 34, who the company plans to attract by creating a music-centric experience and destination that is second to none.

SpiralFrog and Universal Music Group Partner in Advertising-Supported
Legal Music Download Service
New York, August 29, 2006SpiralFrog,
the new music download destination, has signed an agreement with Universal
Music Group (UMG), the world's leading music company, to make UMG's extensive
catalog available for legal downloading in the US and Canada via SpiralFrog's
advertising-supported service.
SpiralFrog
will offer users of its no-cost web-based service the ability to legally
download music by many of the world's most popular and award-winning artists.
"Offering
young consumers an easy-to-use alternative to pirated music sites will be
compelling," said Robin Kent, SpiralFrog's CEO. "SpiralFrog will
offer those consumers a better experience and environment than they can get
from any pirate site." Kent highlighted some key factors - legal digital
files with no viruses or spyware in a controlled client-server architecture,
quick downloading, and quality songs and music videos by great artists as among
the primary benefits users will gain.
Digital
rights management technology is built-in to all audio and video content as part
of measures the company and its partners are actively taking to address piracy.
"We want to provide the best environment for everyone - our partners and
the recording artists, as well as consumers," Kent said. "Piracy
continues to be one of the biggest issues facing the music industry where
illegal file sharing and unauthorized CD burning are the prime means of music
piracy. Digital rights protection will help us combat piracy and provide peace
of mind for the record labels and the artists."
For
Universal Music Group and other record labels, the service will also be
compelling, Kent said. "Offering legally-authorized audio and video
downloads in an advertising-supported environment works, as our business model
is based on sharing our income streams from that advertising with our content
partners like Universal."
Kent noted that the company's research revealed that
consumers are more than willing to 'pay' for their content by watching
non-intrusive, contextually-relevant, targeted advertising in an online
entertainment environment where advertising is already part of the overall
experience.
“We
believe SpiralFrog will deliver an audience we highly desire and need to
reach,” said Oscar Feldenkreis, Vice-Chairman, President and COO at Perry Ellis
International, Inc. “Our audience is heavily into music and can be more easily
reached on the web. We see SpiralFrog as
an ideal place for us to communicate and build lasting relationships with our
core audience and which give us unique new revenue opportunities.”
Andrew
McLean, Chief Client Officer Global at Mediaedge:cia, commented, "The
challenge is to find ways to integrate messaging and content to engage and add
value to consumers' lives rather than just add to the message clutter out
there. Companies like SpiralFrog offer a more direct engagement opportunity and
have the potential to be of value to consumers and, as a result, our clients."
Mediaedge:cia is a unit of GroupM, the media investment management arm of WPP
Group, one of the world's largest communications services groups.
"Our
target audience is the driving force behind the changes in how music is
created, discovered and consumed," Kent said. "They are the future of
music. We believe SpiralFrog's differentiated offering will be highly appealing
to them as well as to content providers."
SpiralFrog's
target audience - people between the ages of 13 and 34 - is an advertiser's
dream, Kent added. "This is the core audience we will attract by building
a music-centric experience and destination that is second to none, legally
delivering what the majority of users want - content they pay for only with
their time. It's content that advertisers are willing to pay for on their
behalf."
SpiralFrog
will launch in beta later this year.

Picks of the Week
ABC News, Jonathan Blum and Dan Evans, September 20th, 2007
Ever since the demise of Napster, the music industry has been searching for the "digital holy grail" -- a music download site that, while free to download, will still pay the rent of artists and record company execs. Spiralfrog.com just might be what the industry has been waiting for. The new Web site plans to make all its money from ad revenue and then -- gasp -- share it with the music industry.
All sides may at last have found a business model: Because the music industry is getting paid, it has no problem providing content. Consumers get what they want -- tons of free music. And artists get the exposure that only free viral marketing can provide.

Top Places to Get Free and Legal Music
Mashable, Alec Feld, October 31st, 2007
In my opinion, SpiralFrog is the most innovative way free music has been distributed yet. On SpiralFrog, you’ll find all of your favorite songs and albums from your favorite (and popular) artists, for free. And it’s all downloadable. The catch? You have to listen to/watch an advertisement before downloading your song. But hey, for a song that’s normally purchasable on itunes for $.99, it’s definitely worth it. SpiralFrog is one of the best free music sites I’ve seen to date.
All in all, who can object to free music legally, even if it has a catch? I sure don’t. I easily give Spiral Frog five stars.

At last: Free music, legally
The Falconaire, Stephen Weber, October 18th, 2007
As hard as it might be to believe, it’s true. Spiralfrog.com allows members to download unlimited music free. What’s the catch? Just renew your membership every 30 days to keep your music working.
So how does it work? Spiral Frog is an ad-supported site in which most of the revenue from the ads goes to the participating record companies. In addition, the music is supported by DRM, technology used for copyright protection. This means that in order for your music to keep playing, you have to renew your subscription every 30 days. Don’t worry, that is free, too, and your music will not stop playing until day 31. On mp3 players, such as iPods, the limit is 60 days. Once you renew your subscription, be sure to sync up you iPod so your music keeps going. While that part might be a pain, I have no objections since the service is free.
The site launched September 17, 2007 and boasts a nice collection of music with new songs launching every week or so. In addition, it even has music videos, too! One last thing to note, you will need to install some software off the site before you can download music.
All in all, who can object to free music legally, even if it has a catch? I sure don’t. I easily give Spiral Frog five stars.

Deterring your child from stealing music online
The Clark Howard Show, Clark Howard, October 9th, 2007
The topic of stealing music on the Internet is a hot one right now. The Minnesota woman recently on trial for sharing music files using Kazaa wants to appeal the $222,000 verdict against her. A lot of us may have teenagers at home who steal music and we look the other way or have no idea what they're up to. But as a parent you've got to know. From an ethical standpoint, wouldn't you want to teach your child that it's not OK to steal music? The writer, the performer, the label and the publisher all deserve to get paid. Imagine if you went to work everyday and got a paycheck for zero at the end of the week because someone decided your efforts should be for free. From a legal standpoint, you're the one that the industry will come after should they choose to prosecute your child for stealing music. While the music labels will never be able to get everybody -- this is kind of like a speed limit in that it can only be enforced on a fraction of people -- why would you want to play with those odds? It can be very expensive if you are caught.
Fortunately you don't have to outright ban your children from getting free music online. There are several free and legal alternatives. SpiralFrog.com allows you to watch ads and get free downloads from major label artists.
